Present with impact when you’re rushed off your feet.

Have you ever needed to give a presentation or speech in the middle of a day of back-to-back meetings?

And have you ever tried to find any sensible advice from TED Talks, podcasts or public speaking coaches on how to present well in that context?

I have. It doesn't exist.

That's because most public speaking coaches have little business experience, if any. They're often vocal coaches, former actors or have previously worked in HR.

Which is why, in my opinion, their advice often sounds… detached from reality. Things like: 'Before your presentation, take 15 minutes for deep breathing and meditation' and 'Stand in front of a mirror and do a vocal warm up.'

Lovely ideas. But let’s be honest, in the real world, most business professionals are sprinting from meeting to meeting, grabbing coffee in one hand and sending emails with the other.

On a day when you’re rushed off your feet, you don’t have time for ‘mindfulness retreats.’ You barely have time for a toilet break.

And yet, you still want to deliver a presentation with impact.

Here’s my view on how you can approach it when your calendar gives you zero breathing space.


1. Nail your first 10 seconds

You don’t need to rehearse every line of your talk. Just lock in your opening sentence. That one moment sets the tone for the whole presentation. A clear, confident start is 80% of the battle. Say it like you mean it, and the audience will lean in.


2. Take a quick physical reset, not a meditation session

Forget elaborate breathing exercises. When you stand to present:
• Plant your feet firmly.
• Roll your shoulders back once.
• Pause for three seconds before speaking.

That quick reset shifts you from 'frazzled' to 'in control' .


3. Steal some energy from the people you're presenting to

When you’re drained, interaction is your best tool. Ask a quick question. Get a show of hands. Make eye contact with one or two people. That exchange pulls the energy out of the room and right back into you.


4. Make sure your slides pop

On days when you’re stretched thin, your slides aren’t just visuals, they can be your safety net. Keep them clean, simple, and aligned with your message. If your mind drifts back to the last meeting, your slides will pull you back on track.


To sum up

You don’t need meditation apps or yoga stretches to present well under pressure. You need a 10-second reset, a confident opening, an injection of audience interaction and some top quality slideware.

Business life is hectic.
Your presentations don’t have to be.
